Match Report |
A much stronger opposition, who were well organised saw the team face a different challenge from previous weeks. Whilst strong at the back (led by Pete Munn) we struggled to move the ball through midfield to penetrate the D the exception being when Paul Jewell opened the play up with accurate passes to add width to the play of send players through.. Speed of pass and accuracy need some work in order to move on to the next level. The press was less effective this week against a well drilled side who transfered the ball quickly. Having said that the structure was good and the team always tried to play good hockey. (the very experienced umpire commented on how well the team was set up). There was a complete set of Acharyas playing for the same team for the first time and all made positive contributons with Owain winning man of the match. James Parsons continues to grow as a player and team member playing positionally well in several places to help the team out. He also managed to get dog for a second time this season ? Toby Trickett and Sam Eaterbrook made strong contributions and looked comfortable on the ball.Overall the performance was positive as we faced what is effectively the next level of opposition and the next level (in fact 2 or 3 levels above) of umpiring. We weren't quite up to the speed of playing and decision makeing to achieve a win but I feel we are progressing towards it.
